Up Ribbon: Welcome!

Hello and Welcome to Syracuse
on behalf of the Women of the University Community!

As you and/or your spouse are newcomers to the university and possibly Syracuse as well, I want to tell you about an opportunity for female faculty, staff and graduate students, as well as for female spouses and partners of faculty and staff of Syracuse University, SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry, and SUNY Upstate Medical University.

WOMEN OF THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNITY offers women:

Opportunities for friendships and social supports, A play group for parents and young children
Community service opportunities

Involvement in providing three scholarships that support female students.

Women of the University interest groups span a wide spectrum of interests and you are welcome to start a group that appeals to you. Phone numbers are in the brochure. Among those offered now are:

Gardening
Book Review
Duplicate Bridge
Neighborhood Groups (University, Jamesville/Lafayette, Outer Comstock)
Creative Cooking
Fiber Arts
Book Exchange
Reading Tutorial Program
Mahjong
Preschool Play Group
Moms and Tots

WUC was established in 1927, and is a self-sufficient, not-for-profit organization. The organization schedules special events during the school year, sponsors auxiliary groups that meet regularly, and organizes projects to raise funds for three scholarships. If you have any questions about what the Syracuse area has to offer, please email wuc@syr.edu (please put WUC Newcomers in the subject box).

"When I moved to Syracuse a few years back, a Newcomers folder was my motivation to get out in the neighborhood and beyond. I joined the playgroup, then the Luncheon with Friends, and I'm still discovering new things. There is just so much to do in Onondaga County." -Jacki Philippon, former chair, Newcomers committee

We do hope you will consider joining WUC and that you will be able to attend the annual Fall Gathering in early October (see calendar of events) which promises to be very special this year.

Cordially,

Manal El Tigi, PhD.
