Community Outreach Opportunity
Volunteer readers are assigned one first grader and one second grader from Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School (MLK) to work with and mentor at the school. We read from 12:00 to 1:00 o'clock on Tuesdays and/or Wednesdays. The Reading Specialist and Coach from MLK, who trains us, will be at the luncheon to update and give materials and instruction for the expanded focus on Reading Comprehension. The school is adjacent to the campus, under route I-81 behind the Veteran's Hospital. Students are 98%
African-American, Hispanic and African, 90% free lunch.
